Our Impact Stories

What people have to say

"GharShala is having a profound impact on the lives of the children it serves. In addition to providing education, GharShala also emphasizes the importance of allowing children to enjoy their childhood. The organization celebrates festivals and takes the children to the garden to ensure that they have a fun time. I have observed significant improvement in the children's ability to learn and retain information. They have cultivated a sense of confidence and acquired fundamental life skills, including discipline, respectful communication with their peers and teachers, and showing respect for others."

Mamta Bagde,
Technical Lead, USA, Ambassador GharShala

"I came across GharShala - Glocal Roots International’s initiative through a friend, who was one of the volunteer teachers. I am truly inspired by the work the organisation is doing to uplift underprivileged children through education, as I firmly believe that education is a fundamental right for every child. GRIF consistently strives for the betterment of society by also empowering women to achieve financial independence. They are always ready to initiate projects that benefit the community whenever needed. Well done, Glocal Roots International! Keep up the amazing work. I am grateful to contribute, even in a small way, to their commendable efforts, despite living outside of India."

Monali Pande,
Security Analyst, Sweden, Ambassador, GharShala

"I have been volunteering since 2022, teaching STEM at GharShala on weekends. I have seen kids going to good private schools struggling in subjects like Mathematics and science, so it was anticipated that kids from deprived sections would struggle too; however, to the degree they struggle not just in STEM but also in other subjects was saddening. It was a learning curve for me too, just as much as the kids, as I had to adapt my teaching methods based on the need and openness of children to learning that day, given they are from migrant families. The organisation plans sessions and informs of the topic/session plan in advance. The session may or may not go as ambitiously as we planned; however, revision at the end of the session confirms the absorption of concepts intended for the session. The organisation pours heart and soul into benefiting kids, and it is a truly fulfilling experience to give back to the community. I encourage fellow volunteers to join the cause and give back."

Akash Kalal,

"This type of initiative should take place in our society. Glocal Roots International Foundation plays a vital role in accelerating the ‘Right to Education.’ The GharShala program is perfectly managed. I am very impressed."

Darshika Kulkarni,
Sr, PMO, T-Systems, Volunteer teacher, German language

"It is a great effort and challenge to monitor and manage so many kids, especially as they differ in age, language, and education. They are enthusiastic and open to learning, yet need profound guidance and mentoring. They are expressive, especially boys who can get out of hand if not handled professionally. It is a truly treasurable experience to volunteer and participate in various programs organised at GharShala. Their extracurricular activities, such as singing, dancing, storytelling, and acting, are their authentic expressions, and GharShala provides that space for celebration. Each time I visit, the need for such efforts to promote education for poor kids is highlighted, and I am happy to be able to contribute in some way."

Kashi Gangasagare,
Software Engineer, Infosys, Volunteer teacher

"It was a heart-warming experience to meet and greet kids who seem to get super excited meeting new people. It is an exposure for them as well as for us. Their need and liking for Arts and crafts are abundantly visible on ‘GharShala’s Art wall’. Kids do need an outlet to express their inner world through art and craft. Congratulations to the organisation for creating that opportunity."

Shobha Thorwat,
YouTuber and kids’ Art & Craft specialist, Guest teacher, Goa

"Glocal Roots International Foundation’s focus on foundational development demonstrates a profound understanding of child development, where impactful work at the grassroots level fosters positive behavioural change in each child. "
